I think something that is important to keep in mind is that leaves are not automatically ready to be used as mulch. You may try using the following Nature's Lawn products to accelerate their decomposition:
Natures Magic,
Biological Dethatcher,
Aerify Plus,
OR Aerify.
These are all organic products and can be applied at the same time. They all work great.
